City of Graz

The City of Graz with a population of around 255,000 (2008) is the second-largest city in Austria after Vienna and the capital, cultural and university center of the Federal State of Styria.

The city is located on the Mur river; in the south east of Austria. Graz has a long tradition as a student city; its 4 universities and 2 universities of applied science have more than 44,000 students. Graz's "Old Town" is one of the best-preserved city centres in Central Europe. In 1999, it was added to the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage Sites.

The Executive Department of the City of Graz operates in fields of superior urban development, planning and construction as well as in EU-projects and is responsible for the main coordination of all planning and construction departments.
